Massive Displacement of Central Africans in Bosobolo Territory

In a concerning development, the administrator of Bosobolo territory has confirmed a massive displacement of Central African populations. A total of 6,109 newly arrived Central Africans have crossed the Ubangi River to settle in several Congolese localities bordering the Central African Republic. This influx of Central Africans fleeing the ongoing clashes between the Séléka rebels and the Central African armed forces has raised alarm bells in the region.

Escaping Conflict and Seeking Refuge

Isaac Pelendo, the administrator of Bosobolo, highlighted the dire situation, stating that these Central Africans, numbering over 6,000 individuals, are seeking refuge in six localities in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They have sought shelter in two groupings in the Bandas sector, including Dama, Mala, Longbanda, Muru Yalekota, Gbando, Bandas, and Kilimoto.

The clashes between the loyalist Central African forces and rebel factions resulted in the death of a Séléka rebel leader between December 24 and December 26, 2024. This incident escalated tensions, leading to threats of retaliation by the rebels and prompting the Central African armed forces to advise the local population to evacuate to avoid potential Séléka reprisals.

Border Surveillance and Calm Amidst Crisis

Isaac Pelendo emphasized that the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) are monitoring the border through which the Central Africans are entering the country. Despite the influx of refugees, the situation remains relatively calm in the affected localities. The FARDC’s presence has helped maintain stability in the region, offering a sense of reassurance to both the local population and the displaced Central Africans.

Hope for a Resolution

In the midst of this humanitarian crisis, the international community must come together to support the displaced Central Africans and work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict in the Central African Republic. As we witness these families fleeing their homes in search of safety, it is crucial that we extend a helping hand and show compassion towards those in need.

Let us stand in solidarity with the Central African refugees and strive to create a world where peace and stability prevail, ensuring that no one has to endure the horrors of displacement and conflict. Together, we can make a difference and provide hope for a better tomorrow for all those affected by this crisis.
