Equipping Coffee Producers in Tshopo Region with Unique Decortication Machines
In a groundbreaking move to revolutionize the coffee production industry in the Tshopo region, the L’office national des producteurs agricoles du Congo (ONAPAC) has stepped up its game by providing local coffee producers with state-of-the-art decortication machines. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of coffee processing, ultimately benefiting both the producers and the local economy.
Unique Decortication Machines Enhancing Coffee Production
Under the leadership of Blaise Kangamina, the provincial director of ONAPAC, the organization has recently acquired two decortication machines. These machines have the capacity to process a remarkable two tons of coffee per hour, streamlining the production process and eliminating the need for manual labor. Notably, the Tshopo region is the sole province among the former four provinces of the Orientale province to have access to these cutting-edge machines, setting it apart as a trailblazer in the industry.
Promoting Sustainable Agriculture and Market Access
The primary objective behind this strategic move is to promote sustainable agriculture practices and facilitate access to both local and international markets for coffee producers. By investing in these decortication machines, ONAPAC aims to support small-scale agricultural producers in enhancing their market reach and connecting them with potential investors. Currently, coffee is being sold at a price ranging from $1.5 to $2 per kilogram in the local market, while cocoa commands a price of $5.5 per kilogram.
Empowering Local Farmers and Fostering Economic Growth
As the agricultural campaign unfolds, ONAPAC is actively engaging with local farmers to provide them with the necessary guidance and support. The organization is closely working with various agricultural cooperatives in the Tshopo region to promote sustainable farming practices. The recent success in securing a coffee processing contract from the Haut-Uele province underscores the positive impact of these decortication machines on expanding market opportunities.
Transforming Communities Through Innovation
For many local farmers, the introduction of these decortication machines signifies a significant breakthrough for coffee producers in the outskirts of Kisangani and neighboring provinces. The ongoing agricultural campaign, which commenced on October 10, 2024, is set to conclude on October 10, 2025, marking a transformative period for the region’s agricultural landscape.
Gabriel Makabu, a resident of Kisangani, shared his excitement about the positive impact of the decortication machines on local coffee production. “The introduction of these machines is truly a game-changer for coffee producers in our region. It not only improves the quality of our coffee but also opens up new opportunities for economic growth and development,” he expressed.
As ONAPAC continues to spearhead initiatives aimed at empowering local farmers and fostering sustainable agriculture practices, the future looks promising for the Tshopo region. With innovation at the forefront, these unique decortication machines are paving the way for a brighter and more prosperous future for coffee producers in the region.
