Government Confirms Reconquest of Certain Areas in Eastern DRC; FARDC Preventing M23-RDF Coalition Expansion
In a recent development, the Forces Armées de la République Démocratique du Congo (FARDC) have successfully reclaimed strategic areas in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This significant update was disclosed during an extraordinary cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Under the leadership of President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, the Minister of National Defense and Veterans, Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita, reiterated the commitment of the FARDC to safeguard the national territory’s integrity.
Strategic Reconquests in North-Kivu
Minister Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita highlighted the valor and bravery demonstrated by the FARDC in repelling the M23-RDF coalition in various key locations. Particularly in North-Kivu, the FARDC successfully neutralized several M23-RDF terrorists in Ndoluma, Lubero territory, between January 7 and 12. The fierce combat led to the recapture of essential areas like Ishasha, Irambi, Kirumba, Kaina, and Luofu.
The Minister emphasized that these military achievements reverberate across different fronts in the North-Kivu province, where the FARDC continue to thwart enemy advances despite reinforced armament and supplies from Rwanda. In Masisi and Walikale territories, the FARDC’s resolute actions aim to halt the enemy’s expansion. Additionally, in Nyirangongo territory, the FARDC, supported by the VDP, confront the hostile coalition near the Virunga National Park.
Controlled Situation in South-Kivu
The Minister’s briefing also touched upon the clashes between the FARDC and negative forces in South-Kivu. Notably, the FARDC reclaimed several occupied localities and cities on January 12, including Lumbishi, Ruzintaka, Kamatale, and Kabiyi. Decisive operations persist against other armed groups like Red Tabara and Twirwaneho, who collaborate with aggressors in the region.
Vigilant FARDC in Ituri
Regarding Ituri, Minister Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita assured that operational readiness remains high to counter local and foreign armed groups. The ongoing pursuit of CODECO and ADF MTN militants underscores the FARDC’s proactive stance in maintaining security.
In the western region, the Minister addressed the Mobondo militia’s activities within the Kongo Central – Kinshasa – Grand Bandundu triangle. The ongoing military actions under Operation Ngemba aim to quell Mobondo’s insurgency. Overall, the FARDC’s unwavering commitment across all fronts signifies the restoration of security, recovery of lost zones, and preservation of the DRC’s territorial integrity.
As diplomatic efforts stall, the DRC focuses on military organization, with the FARDC steadfastly resisting the M23-AFC-RDF coalition and securing victories in North-Kivu. Despite the ceasefire agreement in Luanda, mediated by Angola, violent clashes persist, coinciding with the installation of the new FARDC command led by Lieutenant General Jules Banza Mwilambwe.
In the face of adversity, the FARDC’s dedication to defending the DRC remains unyielding, reflecting a nation’s resilience in the pursuit of peace and security.
