**37 Former Hostages Freed by Congolese Army in Operations Against ADF**

In a significant development, the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) have handed over 37 former hostages of the ADF rebels to the urban coordination civil society of Beni in North Kivu. The handover ceremony took place on Thursday, January 16, in the presence of military officers and members of the local community.

**Rescue and Reintegration**
Colonel Mak Hazukay, the spokesperson for military operations in the region, revealed that these civilians were rescued during offensives carried out by the Congolese and Ugandan armies. Among the 37 former hostages released, there are seven men, 18 women, and 12 children. These individuals, who endured captivity under the grip of the security services, will now be reintegrated into the community.

**A Call for Acceptance and Support**
Pepin Kavota, the president of the civil society in Beni, emphasized the importance of not stigmatizing the released hostages. He urged the population to welcome them with open arms, avoiding further trauma and ensuring a smooth transition back into society. Kavota also advised the former hostages to sever any remaining ties with their captors for the sake of restoring peace and order in the region.

**Continued Efforts for Freedom**
The ongoing joint military operations known as Shujaa, conducted by FARDC and UPDF, have led to the liberation of hundreds of hostages. This recent wave of releases includes civilians held captive in various locations across North Kivu and Ituri provinces.
