Improving Road Infrastructure in Lomami: Concerns Raised Despite Vehicle Allocation
The residents of the five territories that make up the province of Lomami were elated as they received brand new Land Cruiser 4×4 off-road jeeps on Tuesday, January 14th, as a generous donation from the central government. The governor of Lomami province, Iron Van Kalombo Musoko, personally handed over these vehicles at the provincial governor’s office, urging the beneficiaries to make the best use of them. He emphasized that these vehicles were meant to aid them in their itinerant missions across their respective regions, strengthening their connection with the local population.
The Problem of Road Impassability
Immediately following the distribution of these vehicles, the residents of Lomami province wasted no time in expressing their thoughts. A resident of Ngandajika, interviewed by Actualité.cd on January 15th, expressed that while he appreciated the government’s donation, the real issue lies in the poor condition of the roads. He stated, “I am grateful for the President’s gift. However, most of the roads are in a terrible state, making it difficult to reach the different villages. The governor should focus on rehabilitating the agricultural access roads not only for these vehicles but also to enable small-scale farmers to transport food to consumption areas.”
Another resident from Kamende, in the Kabinda territory, highlighted the importance of maintaining good road conditions to ensure the longevity of the donated vehicles. He emphasized, “We often encounter narrow, muddy, and poorly maintained roads. It is crucial to improve them so that the donated vehicles do not break down prematurely. We want to see these vehicles last.”
Enhancing Local Law Enforcement
In addition to the territory administrators, the officials of the Congolese National Police in Lomami also received a vehicle to aid them in fulfilling their duty of safeguarding the local population. This gesture is expected to bolster their efforts in maintaining law and order in the region.
Conclusion
While the allocation of vehicles to the province of Lomami is a step in the right direction towards improving mobility and service delivery, the pressing issue of road infrastructure remains a significant concern for the residents. It is crucial for the authorities to address these challenges to ensure the effective utilization and longevity of these vehicles in serving the community.

Their voices highlight the practical challenges they face daily and the importance of sustainable solutions to improve their quality of life.
