Critique of Opposition on Félix Tshisekedi’s Governance: Complete Analysis

As the year 2024 draws to a close, several opposition figures in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have sharply criticized President Félix Tshisekedi’s governance, denouncing what they see as chaotic management and calling for urgent reforms for 2025.

In a national address, Moïse Katumbi expressed deep concern over the growing poverty and insecurity plaguing the country. He particularly highlighted the challenges faced by soldiers on the front lines and the dire situation of displaced people in North Kivu and Ituri. “Every day, our country sinks further into poverty and insecurity. Our brave soldiers fight without proper support, and millions of our brothers and sisters live in makeshift camps, in inhumane conditions,” he declared, while urging Congolese citizens to remain hopeful.

Martin Fayulu, on the other hand, outlined a ten-point assessment, condemning corruption, neglect of the military, tribalism, and the collapse of key sectors such as education and health. “Félix Tshisekedi must stop the lies, manipulation, and demagoguery. He must face the consequences of his record,” Fayulu emphasized.

Claudel-André Lubaya also criticized Tshisekedi’s governance, accusing him of plunging the country into a political and moral crisis. “The year 2024 leaves a torn and fragmented nation, reduced to a state of perpetual lamentation, incapable of fulfilling its sovereign duties,” he stated. Lubaya urged Congolese citizens to mobilize to restore national dignity.

Furthermore, Matata Ponyo criticized the “chaotic” organization of the electoral process and the manipulation of public institutions. He denounced corruption and the explosion of public debt, while urging Congolese people to oppose any constitutional revision project that, in his view, would plunge the country into disorder with incalculable consequences.

Lastly, Patient Sayiba, former Director-General of OGEFREM, labeled Tshisekedi’s governance as “scandalous,” citing a “drastic decline in purchasing power, increasing insecurity, and unprecedented unsanitary conditions.”

These statements come at a time when security, economic, and social challenges remain significant in the DRC. The opposition is calling for a collective awakening and radical changes to improve the living conditions of Congolese people and restore the country’s standing on the international stage.
