President of the Provincial Assembly of Kinshasa (APK), Levi Mbuta, has voiced his desire to see the provincial city of Kinshasa “adorn” its most beautiful dress of “Kinshasa the Beautiful.” According to him, the disappearance of waste must be a priority for the provincial government. During his speech at the closing of the ordinary session in September, the President of the APK emphasized the need to materialize Governor Daniel Bumba Lubaki’s slogan, Kinshasa Ezo Bonga.
Lévi Mbuta’s Call for a Cleaner Kinshasa
Mbuta expressed, “Regarding the sanitation of Kinshasa, our most ardent wish is for the slogan Kinshasa Ezo Bonga to become a reality so that finally the city of Kinshasa can put on its most beautiful dress of the past and become, according to our wish, Kinshasa the Beautiful again. Today, the provincial government is making efforts that are noticeable, but we must step up to ensure that waste disappears forever,” said the elected representative of the N’sele commune in his speech on Monday, December 30th.
Roadblocks in the Cleanup Efforts
However, despite efforts being made, the situation in Kinshasa remains unchanged on several fronts. The First Minister, Judith Suminwa Tuluka, emphasized the need to design and implement an “ambitious” program for the sanitation of the capital during the 28th Council of Ministers meeting held on Friday, December 27th, 2024, in Mbuji-Mayi (Kasaï Oriental).
Past Initiatives and Challenges
Kinshasa has seen various sanitation projects in the past, such as Kinshasa Bopeto under Governor Gentiny Ngobila, without achieving the desired results. Provincial authorities often point to a lack of support from the central government as the main obstacle to the effective implementation of these initiatives.
In conclusion, the road to a cleaner Kinshasa is riddled with challenges, but the determination of leaders like Levi Mbuta to see the city shine once again gives hope for a brighter future for Kinshasa. Let’s all play our part in keeping our cities clean and beautiful for generations to come.
