The residents of the villages of Kando, Malembe, and Mole, located in the Waloa Loanda groupement (Walikale territory) in North Kivu are slowly making their way back home after spending a few days in the bush due to the rivalry between two factions of the Mai Mai Kifuafua armed group. Local sources reveal that the inhabitants of these three villages have chosen to return to their communities following the withdrawal of fighters from the faction led by the self-proclaimed general Shukuru Bulenda. However, the residents of Kando, one of the affected villages, discovered that their belongings had been looted by the fighters sent to the village by the self-proclaimed general Shukuru Bulenda to apprehend his rival, Sango Makuchamakucha. “They didn’t find Sango in Kando. He had already left. Unfortunately, they engaged in looting our belongings. Everything is gone. Even the goats, pigs, chickens, everything is gone,” a resident of the area recounts.
This information has been corroborated by several administrative and security sources in Walikale without providing further details. The villagers are urging the authorities to put an end to the insecurity caused by the crisis within the Mai Mai Kifuafua armed group in order to restore stability to the Waloa Loanda groupement.
