In Mwene-Ditu, the hunt is on for brigadier-chief Mutombo Kaniemeshi, the prime suspect in the murder of two Chinese nationals on January 1, 2025. The city’s municipal government has announced a financial reward for any information leading to the capture of the fugitive, according to an official statement released on Saturday.

The statement specifies that a sum of 1,000,000 FC (approximately 500 USD) will be given to anyone who captures Mutombo Kaniemeshi, while verifiable information that leads to his arrest will be rewarded with 50,000 FC (around 25 USD). This information can include photos, contact details of his family members, or even his phone numbers. The city also highlighted that the reward could go up to 600 USD if the murderer is apprehended urgently.

Mwene-Ditu is currently hosting the asphalting works of National Road Number 1, overseen by the Congolese Agency for Major Works (ACGT) and carried out by the Chinese company CREC 6, the employer of the two victims. Governor of Lomami, Iron Van Kalombo Musoko, visited the site the following day to oversee the investigations and demand swift action. Additionally, in Kinshasa, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gracia Yamba Kazadi, met with Chinese diplomat Zhao Bin to ease tensions and reaffirm the DRC’s commitment to delivering justice. She pledged “exemplary sanctions” against the perpetrator of this crime.
