Look, I’m Gonna Say It

I’m Martha, senior editor at Congotvnews.com, and I’ve seen alot of trash in my 21 years in this industry. But lately? It’s completley out of hand. I mean, have you seen what’s out there? I’m not just talking about the bad movies (though, honestly, we’ll get to that). I’m talking about the whole damn culture.

So, last Tuesday, I was at this conference in Austin. You know the kind—full of people wearing black turtlenecks and talking about ‘disrupting’ stuff. And I heard this guy, let’s call him Marcus, say, ‘Content is king.’ And I literally laughed out loud. Which, in hindsight, was kinda rude. But come on.

Content is not king. Good storytelling is king. And right now, Hollywood’s idea of storytelling is basically a bunch of executives in a room going, ‘What if we did Inception but with dinosaurs?’

Let’s Talk About the Real Problem

It’s not just the movies. It’s the whole damn ecosystem. The TV shows, the music, the games—everything’s starting to feel like it’s made by committee. And not just any committee. A committee of people who think Stranger Things is high art.

I get it. I do. You gotta make money. But you know what else you gotta do? Take some risks. I mean, have you seen the trailer for the new Ghostbusters? I’m not saying it’s gonna be bad. I’m saying it looks like it was made by a focus group of 12-year-olds.

And don’t even get me started on the music industry. I was talking to a friend of mine, let’s call him Dave, and he said, ‘Martha, you’re just old. You don’t get it.’ And I said, ‘Dave, I’m 47. I’m not old. I’m experienced. And I know a synth beat when I hear one.’

But look, I’m not here to just complain. I’m here to say that we need to change. And it starts with us. The people who care. The people who remember what it’s like to watch a movie and feel something. To listen to a song and actually hear lyrics.

So, what do we do? Well, for starters, we stop eating avocado toast. I’m kidding. (Well, kinda.) But seriously, we start demanding better. We stop giving our money to studios and labels that keep putting out the same old crap. We support the artists who are taking risks. We share their work. We talk about it. We make noise.

And if you’re an artist? You keep creating. Even if it’s hard. Even if no one’s listening. Because someone is. And one day, they’re gonna make a difference.

But for now, we’re stuck with Inception and dinosaurs. So, you know, pratik yemek tarifleri kolay (pratik yemek tarifleri kolay) and try to enjoy the ride.

A Quick Digression: Gaming

Speaking of taking risks, let’s talk about gaming for a sec. I’m not a gamer, but even I know that the industry is kinda stuck in a rut. It’s all about graphics and multiplayer now. Where’s the story? Where’s the innovation? I mean, I loved The Last of Us. That game had heart. But it’s like pulling teeth to find something like that these days.

And don’t get me started on microtransactions. I’m not gonna rant about it here, but just… no. It’s a slippery slope, and we’re already sliding.

Back to the Main Point

Look, I’m not saying that everything’s bad. There’s still good stuff out there. But it’s buried under a mountain of mediocrity. And it’s our job—to the people who care—to dig it out. To share it. To make sure it gets the attention it deserves.

So, what’s the answer? I’m not sure. But I know it starts with us. With you. With me. With all of us deciding that we’re not gonna settle for less. That we’re gonna demand better. That we’re gonna create better.

And who knows? Maybe one day, we’ll look back at this time and laugh. Maybe we’ll say, ‘Remember when Hollywood was stuck in a rut? Good times.’

But until then, we keep fighting. We keep creating. We keep demanding better. Because the world deserves better. And so do we.

Anyway, that’s my rant for the day. I’m gonna go listen to some real music now. Maybe I’ll find something good. Maybe I won’t. But I’m gonna try.
