As the Senate is about to begin examining the request from the Military Heart to lift the immunity of former President Joseph Kabila, opposition leader Moïse Katumbi believes that this initiative could worsen divisions and further weaken national cohesion. Rather than trying to lift the immunities of a former President in violation of the law, the President of the Together for the Republic party strongly advises the government to prioritize inclusive dialogue and consultation with all the nation’s stakeholders. “The attempt to lift the parliamentary immunities of former President Joseph Kabila, in disregard of legal provisions requiring a vote of Congress, is a dangerous and irresponsible step. At a time when the Democratic Republic of the Congo is facing major challenges, including insecurity in the East and social tensions, this initiative could exacerbate divisions and further weaken national cohesion. Instead of engaging in political maneuvers, the government should prioritize inclusive dialogue and consultation with all the nation’s stakeholders, including the former president, to consolidate the unity and stability of the country,” said Moïse Katumbi.

“I strongly condemn this attempt to circumvent the law for motives clearly guided by settling scores rather than the general interest. Peace and national cohesion, essential for addressing current challenges, cannot be restored by acts that sow discord and undermine democratic principles,” he added. Furthermore, Moïse Katumbi calls on the President, Félix Tshisekedi, to initiate dialogue with his predecessor. “I urge President Félix Tshisekedi to put an end to this endeavor and to open a sincere dialogue with his predecessor, Joseph Kabila, as well as all stakeholders, in order to prioritize national unity and address the deep aspirations of the Congolese people for peace and development,” he concluded. According to the Congolese Government, the former President is being pursued as a senator for alleged acts of treason, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, related to violence in the East of the country. The Minister of Justice mentions a “maximum of evidence” implicating Joseph Kabila in what Kinshasa describes as “direct participation in the aggression carried out by Rwanda through the terrorist movement AFC/M23.”

Not really sure why this matters, but it seems like the Senate is getting involved in some drama about lifting the immunity of a former President. Moïse Katumbi is not happy about it and thinks it’s a bad idea that could make things worse in the country. He’s basically saying that instead of playing politics, the government should focus on talking to everyone and finding ways to unite the nation. The government, on the other hand, is accusing the former President of some serious stuff like treason and war crimes. They seem pretty convinced that he was involved in some shady business in the East of the country. Maybe it’s just me, but it feels like there’s a lot of tension and finger-pointing going on here.

In the midst of all this drama, Moïse Katumbi is calling on President Félix Tshisekedi to stop the madness and have a heart-to-heart with Joseph Kabila. He thinks that talking things out is the way to go to bring peace and development to the people. It’s like a soap opera unfolding in the political arena of the Democratic Republic of Congo, with accusations flying left and right. Who knows how this will all play out in the end, but one thing’s for sure – things are heating up in the Congolese political scene. So buckle up, folks, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
