Combatting Crime in Haut-Katanga: Police Crack Down on Suspected Criminals
In a bid to address the rising crime rate in Haut-Katanga, the police have presented a group of suspected criminals to the public. This move comes in the wake of the brutal killing of journalist Patrick Adonis Numbi Banze in Lubumbashi on Tuesday evening, sending shockwaves through the community.
Governor Jacques Kyabula Katwe of Haut-Katanga has taken a firm stance on the issue, emphasizing the crucial role of law enforcement in combating these heinous acts. Speaking at the presentation of a dozen alleged criminals operating in various neighborhoods of Lubumbashi, Governor Kyabula urged for swift action to eradicate the escalating trend of armed assailants targeting innocent civilians.
Intensifying Search for Perpetrators: Governor’s Plea for Justice
The perpetrators responsible for the senseless murder of journalist Patrick Adonis Numbi must be brought to justice, Governor Kyabula stressed during a meeting with General Dieudonné Ondimba Okito of the National Police Force in Haut-Katanga. The use of machetes in the journalist’s killing has raised concerns about the safety of residents, prompting calls for a comprehensive crackdown on criminal elements in the region.
“We cannot allow these criminal activities to continue unchecked in Haut-Katanga. The loss of innocent lives at the hands of these delinquents is unacceptable. It is imperative that we intensify our efforts to apprehend the wrongdoers, including those responsible for the tragic death of Adonis,” Governor Kyabula asserted passionately.
Unveiling the Alleged Criminals: Police Operation Reveals Disturbing Trends
Among the individuals presented by the police, two deserters from the army originating from the eastern part of the country have been identified as operating in collusion with unemployed youth in the Tshansansa neighborhood of Lubumbashi. The apprehension of these suspects sheds light on the complex network of criminal activities permeating the city, with reports of theft, assault, and violence involving bladed weapons.
“The 12 suspected criminals are divided into 4 groups, each engaging in various illicit activities. The first group, comprising 14 bandits, including 10 fugitives, has been apprehended in the Congo and Masankoshi neighborhoods of Ruashi commune, where they have been involved in a spate of violent crimes. The second group consists of army deserters who sought refuge in Lubumbashi, colluding with unemployed youth in Tshansansa neighborhood,” explained Charles Bin Lwamba Espéranto, the police spokesperson in Haut-Katanga.

With the prevailing insecurity in Lubumbashi reaching critical levels, Governor Kyabula has issued a clarion call for all security forces to step up their efforts in curbing urban crime.
