Optimism Among Congolese for 2025: Survey Reveals Mixed Results

In a recent survey conducted by the opinion polling firm TARGET SARL, the personal outlook of Congolese individuals for the year 2025 was brought to light. Utilizing the Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) approach and quota sampling methods based on age group, gender, and province, TARGET surveyed a sample of 1540 Congolese individuals aged 18 and above. The results indicate that 62% of Congolese citizens are optimistic about the future, while 10% hold a pessimistic view, leaving approximately one-third (29%) undecided.

Optimism Across Demographics

According to the survey findings, there are no significant differences in optimism levels between men (61%) and women (63%), suggesting that optimism is relatively evenly distributed across various sociodemographic categories in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The trend of optimism remains consistent across all age groups, with minimal variations. However, seniors aged 65 and above exhibit a slightly higher level of optimism (65%), whereas adults aged 45 to 64 show a slightly more moderate level of optimism (59%), as noted by Target.

Regional Variances

On a regional level, Kasaï-Oriental boasts the highest percentage of optimism at 84%, surpassing the national average. In the capital city of Kinshasa, 69% of residents are optimistic about their personal situation in 2025, followed by the Katanga province (62%), Kongo Central (61%), the former Orientale province (59%), the former Équateur province (48%), South Kivu (44%), and North Kivu (31%).
