Mining Minister Denounces Rwandan Aggression at African Mining Indaba 2025

In a powerful stance against Rwandan aggression and the illegal exploitation of Congolese mineral resources, Minister of Mines of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kizito Pakabomba, made a resounding denouncement at the African Mining Indaba 2025, the continent’s largest mining forum.

The event’s official opening saw Minister Kizito Pakabomba highlighting the severe violation of national sovereignty and the significant factor contributing to ongoing instability in the eastern part of the country due to the illegal exploitation of minerals by Rwanda. “African nations’ cooperation cannot be built in silence in the face of such violations. Our resources should no longer finance conflicts or enrich illegal networks to the detriment of the Congolese people. The DRC will remain steadfast in defending its mining heritage,” declared Minister Kizito Pakabomba.

### A Call for Responsible and Attractive Mining Sector

Beyond the condemnation, the Congolese delegation at the Mining Indaba emphasized the government’s commitment to structuring the mining sector to attract responsible and transparent investments. The Congolese booth showcased the country’s opportunities while reinforcing the authorities’ dedication to combating illegal exploitation that undermines the national economy.

In addition to the official proceedings, the Minister of Mines engaged in strategic meetings with key industry players. He also visited the Tanganyika province booth, where he interacted with Christian Kitungwa Muteba, the province’s governor, and Mr. Miguel Kashal Katemb, Director of the Private Sector Subcontracting Regulatory Authority (ARSP).

Active participation in such events is crucial for the DRC to showcase its mineral resources, enhance regulatory frameworks, and attract investors who adhere to existing standards.

### Investors’ Responsibility

Minister Pakabomba reiterated that any investment in the DRC must align with transparency and sustainability requirements. “We urge investors to engage in mining operations that respect local laws and communities. The DRC will no longer tolerate complicity with networks illegally exploiting our minerals,” he affirmed.

With significant strategic resources like cobalt, copper, lithium, and coltan, the DRC holds a central position in the global mining industry. Its presence at the Mining Indaba 2025 aims to bolster its appeal for secure and ethical investments while reaffirming its sovereignty over its mining assets.

The DRC will continue its mission at the Mining Indaba by engaging in strategic discussions with economic partners, investors, and international institutions to promote a stable, responsible mining sector that benefits the country’s development.
