Transferring 57 Delinquents to Angenga: Kinshasa

A group of 57 criminals incarcerated at the central prison of Makala in Kinshasa was transferred this Saturday, January 4, 2025, to the prison of Angenga, located in the province of Mongala in the north of the DRC. This operation is part of the “Ndobo” (the hook) operation launched by the Vice Prime Minister in charge of Interior and Security, Jacquemain Shabani.

Expert Commentary and Warning

Before their embarkation, the Minister of State in charge of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Constant Mutamba, delivered a message to parents whose children engage in “Kuluna” (urban banditry). “To all the parents listening to me, know that your children arrested for Kuluna, you will never see them again. The death penalty will be applied,” he declared before the press.

Increase in Arrests

During the lockdown operations organized on the night of December 31, 2024, to January 1, 2025, in the four districts of Kinshasa, 450 bandits were apprehended by the police under the authority of the divisional commissioner of the capital. These arrests add to the 1,500 other delinquents previously apprehended. These individuals are to be judged and sentenced during mobile courts, regularly organized in accordance with the recommendations of the head of state.

Personal Connection

As a parent myself, hearing about these criminals being transferred to a different prison is a stark reminder of the impact of crime on families. It is heartbreaking to imagine the pain and disappointment these parents must be feeling upon hearing that they may never see their children again. This situation serves as a sobering lesson on the consequences of criminal behavior and the importance of steering our youth away from a life of crime. Let’s all reflect on how we can contribute to creating a safer and more secure society for everyone.
