In preparation for the launch of a youth anti-corruption and patriotism awareness campaign in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Inspector General of Finance (IGF) Jules Alingete Key met with Minister of Higher Education and University (ESU) Marie-Thérèse Sombo on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. The purpose of this meeting, according to the communication office attached to the Presidency, was to finalize preparations for the mega awareness campaign set to begin on March 3, 2025. This initiative aims to instill in young people a heightened sense of civic responsibility, good governance, and awareness of the devastating effects of corruption.
The project, scheduled to commence at the Cultural and Artistic Center for Central African countries on March 3, will run throughout the year 2025. It will involve over 2,000 young people, primarily from educational institutions. The goal is clear: to eradicate the endemic corruption that hinders the country’s development and promote genuine patriotism among the youth determined to build a better Congo.
“The youth are the future of the country. If we can impart to them the values of integrity and national commitment, we will set the DRC on a path to lasting prosperity,” said Jules Alingete Key, chief of service at the IGF. The initiative will receive active support from various ministries, including Youth, Vocational Training, National Education, and Higher Education. These institutions will be responsible for disseminating messages, organizing conferences, and forums in universities and schools nationwide.
“Young people will have the opportunity to participate in debates and discussion forums where experts and political leaders will address the dangers of corruption and the importance of sincere patriotism in nation-building,” noted the IGF. This campaign comes at a time when the DRC has made progress in governance, thanks in part to the IGF. However, there is still much work to be done to establish a true culture of accountability. Mobilizing the youth is now seen as a crucial lever to instill these values in future mindsets.
Authorities hope that with this momentum, the new generation will be able to take the reins and continue the ongoing efforts. “March 3 will be a starting point. It’s a clear message we’re sending to all Congolese youth: they are the key to national recovery,” emphasized the head of the IGF. Through this campaign, Congolese authorities aim to transform young people’s perceptions of corruption and strengthen their national pride. With a strong message of change, the DRC is gearing up to welcome a generation ready to tackle the challenge of a prosperous future, free of corruption and proud of its identity.
