Improved Revenue Management through IGF Inspectors Training in DRC
In a bid to intensify oversight of public finances and raise awareness about the fight against corruption, the Inspection Générale des Finances (IGF) has launched a capacity-building seminar. This two-day training session, held on Saturday, January 11, 2024, aims to enhance revenue maximization and orthodox management at decentralized entities.
Expert Insights and Collaborative Efforts
Led by Inspector General of Finances and IGF Coordinator, Herman Iyeleza, the training session was made possible through collaboration with Switzerland. Participants were encouraged to learn from comparative federalism discussions facilitated by professors from the University of Fribourg. Eva Mari Belzer, a constitutional law professor at a Swiss university, expressed her enthusiasm for the dynamic Congolese audience and the opportunity to exchange knowledge.
Inspecteur Général des Finances-chef de brigade des entités territoriales décentralisées, Christophe Bitasimwa, highlighted the importance of capacity-building for improved performance. The focus on theoretical and practical aspects, along with discussions with the DRC, aims to generate suitable proposals for enhancing financial decentralization.
Promoting Good Governance and Collaboration
The seminar aligns with efforts to promote good governance in public administration. A meeting between Swiss Ambassador to the DRC, Chasper Sarott, and IGF Chief of Service, Jules Alingete Key, emphasized sharing experiences in good governance and future collaborations to combat unethical practices.
Jules Alingete Key outlined the daily work of financial control at the IGF, underscoring the importance of exchanging governance experiences and finding solutions to combat mismanagement of public funds.
IGF’s Role in Anti-Corruption Efforts under President Tshisekedi
Since President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi took office, the IGF has played a vital role in supporting anti-corruption initiatives and dismantling criminal networks. Their commitment to achieving tangible development and combating corruption reflects a broader effort towards a more transparent and accountable system.
As the IGF continues to enhance its capacity and collaborate with international partners, the prospects for improved revenue management and strengthened governance in the DRC appear promising. Through such initiatives, the country moves closer to achieving sustainable economic growth and ensuring public resources are used efficiently for the benefit of all citizens.
