Vital Kamerhe was, like, totally welcomed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the State House in Entebbe on Friday. Kamerhe brought a super important message from President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo of the Congo. The two big shots had a chat about the security situation in the East of the DRC. The meeting came after a Congolese parliamentary mission that kicked off on November 12, 2024, in Kampala. Lambert Mende Omalanga, the head honcho of the delegation, said the mission was all about boosting parliamentary diplomacy with the Ugandan authorities, with no plan to meet the Ugandan head honcho. When the delegation left Kinshasa, Mende made it clear that they were going to have discussions with the Ugandan parliament president, Anita Annet Among, and some government peeps about commercial, infrastructural, and security agreements, including the joint military operation Shujaa.
The ten Congolese national deputies were also hosted by President Museveni on November 18, who gave the thumbs up for a bilateral parliamentary friendship group to check out how economic integration projects and cross-border security were going. A report was handed in at the National Assembly office after the mission, following working sessions with the Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Internal Affairs committees of the Ugandan parliament.
Honestly, not really sure why this matters, but it seems like some important stuff went down in that meeting between Kamerhe and Museveni. Like, they must have had some pretty intense discussions about security and all that jazz. And then there was this parliamentary mission that started in Kampala, which led to more talks with Ugandan officials. And then, bam, a report was filed after even more meetings. It’s like a whole process, you know?
I mean, I guess it’s cool that they’re all trying to work together on economic and security projects. That’s always a good thing, right? And having these parliamentary friendship groups to keep an eye on things sounds pretty smart. Who knows, maybe it will lead to some positive changes in the region. Anyway, that’s the scoop on Kamerhe and Museveni’s meeting in Entebbe. It’s a wrap, folks!
