Y’all, so like, in this press release, the government delegation and M23/AFC after some talks in Doha, Qatar, agreed to work on reaching a truce for a permanent ceasefire. Envol, an opposition political party, was all about celebrating this major step towards a bilateral ceasefire. But, like, Rodrigue Ramazani, the secretary general of this opposition party led by Delly Sessanga, is all about emphasizing the social pact for peace and coexistence in the DRC and the Great Lakes region, proposed by CENCO-ECC, which includes an inclusive dialogue among Congolese folks.
So, like, the signing of this joint statement by the Government and M23/AFC is a big step towards a bilateral ceasefire and de-escalation of the conflict in the East of the country. But hey, real peace ain’t just about guns going silent, you know? We need that inclusive dialogue thing the priests are talking about to rebuild a national unity that’s been seriously messed up to get everyone on board with the necessary reforms for rebuilding Congo.
Kinshasa and M23-AFC are all promising to stick to their promises for a constructive dialogue to dig into the deep-rooted causes of the ongoing crisis and how to end the conflict for long-lasting peace in the DRC. The Congolese government and the rebels are like, “Yo, people of Congo, religious leaders, and media, help us spread this message of hope and peace.”
Oh, and remember how President FĂ©lix Tshisekedi was all about not negotiating with what he called “puppets”? Yeah, he was like, “That’s a no-go zone,” pointing fingers at his predecessor, Joseph Kabila, for being behind the AFC.
And, like, the Belgians are all into this ceasefire thing, calling it a crucial step to stop the violence. They’re even planning a tour around the region starting this weekend. Qatar is also telling Kinshasa and AFC/M23 to keep up the dialogue “in a constructive spirit.” So, things are moving, folks!
